Clinical spectrum and laboratory profile of scrub typhus in children: A study from tertiary care hospital in Uttarakhand, Northern India

Background: Scrub typhus is a mite-born disease scrub. It commonly manifests as an acute febrile illness with multi-system involvement. regarded life-threatening in children, serious complications usually occurring the 2nd week of illness. Aims and Objectives: The aims this study were to explore clinical laboratory profile children scrub typhus. Materials Methods: All admitted over 1-year duration enrolled study. clinical, profile, outcome observed analyzed. Results: A total 47 diagnosed typhus, 17 (36.1%) had evidence meningitis. most frequent presenting features fever (100%), headache (82.4%), vomiting seizures (41.2%), altered sensorium (70.6%). mean was 6.57 days, eight (7%) persistent for >14 days duration. Other reported hepatitis 2 (4.3%), hepatosplenomegaly 18 (38.3%) respiratory distress syndrome shock 31 (66%). cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, glucose, cell count 65.75±9.27 mg/dL, 45.00±7.23 65.94±52.72 cells/mm3 CSF, respectively, lymphocyte more than 96% all cases. Most patients lymphocytic pleocytosis percentage 96.2%±4.5%. Out patients, 45 (84.61%) recovered appropriate antibiotics both groups, while two (15.38%) expired group without Conclusion: high degree suspicion knowledge geographical distribution Rickettsial diseases crucial its early diagnosis favorable outcome. should be considered differential aseptic
